In 2008, Drs. Scott Lyons, Fred Gibson, and James Navalta, in conjunction with Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, took a group of 41 students and guests to China for a study abroad project centered around Chinese history and culture as well as the Beijing Olympics. The trip lasted two weeks and the group visited Beijing, Shanghai, Taiyuan, and Pingyao City.

Steven Powell is a 2002 graduate of the Recreation Program and 2004 graduate of the RSA program. He currently serves as the Associate Director of the Department of Campus Recreation at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
