The James L. Highland Media Adviser of the Year Award has been established to recognize the Kentucky high school media teacher who actively supports and protects the First Amendment rights of students through inspiring high ethical and professional standards. In addition, the award will recognize advisers' outstanding achievement in Kentucky's high school or middle school media classrooms and in student publications and broadcasts.
Award benefits
The winner will be presented with a plaque from the WKU School of Journalism and Broadcasting during a recognition ceremony at the 2013 Mark of Excellence Contest Award Ceremony at WKU. The winner will receive Western's nomination to enter the national journalism teacher of the year contests, including but not limited to the Dow Jones Fund and Journalism Education Association competitions.
Deadline
The postmark deadline to enter is February 19, 2013. The judging committee will be comprised of Western faculty and high school media advisers. The winner will be notified in advance of the recognition ceremony. The contest covers the regular calendar year, January – December 2012, enabling advisers from the spring or fall semester to apply.
