WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN BASIC (EMT-B)? Education for the EMT-B deals with the assessment and care of the ill or injured patient. This level is more advance than the EMT-First Responder. Basic Life Support EMS agencies utilize the EMT-B. Request information on upcoming classes.

WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN INTERMEDIATE (EMT-I)? This EMT has passed specific additional education programs in order to provide some level of advance life support, such as initiation of IV (intervenous) lines, advance airway techniques, and administration of some medications beyond those of the EMT-B is permitted to administer. At the present time Kentucky does not have an EMT-I program. Request information on upcoming classes.

WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN PARAMEDIC (EMT-P)? Paramedic education must meet the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) National Standard Paramedic Curriculum. Paramedic can usually perform but not limited to relative invasive field care, including insertion of endotracheal tubes, initiation of IV Lines, administration of a variety of medications, interpretation of electrocardiograms, and cardiac defibrillation. WHAT IS AN CRITICAL CARE EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRANSPORT PROGRAM (CCEMTP)? This program is designed to provide the advance educational foundation required for specialist transporting critical care patents.
