Student journalists, broadcasters finalists in regional competition

Several WKU student journalists and broadcasters are finalists in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Region 5 Mark of Excellence Awards competition.
Awards will be presented at the SPJ Region 5 spring conference April 13-14 in Indianapolis. First-place regional winners will advance to the national round of the SPJ competition.
Finalists include the following:
- Best All-Around Television Newscast: WKU NewsChannel 12
- Feature Writing-4 Year College/University: Emily Patton of Nebo, College Heights Herald
- General News Reporting-4 Year College/University: Jonathan Lintner of Louisville, College Heights Herald
- Photo Illustration-4 Year College/University: Jerry Englehart Jr. of Ormand Beach, Fla., College Heights Herald
- Radio News Reporting: Joseph Mathis of Danville, WWHR
- Sports Writing-4 Year College/University: Cole Claybourn of Evansville, Ind., College Heights Herald
- Television Breaking News Reporting: Jeremy Brown of Chandler, Ind., NewsChannel 12
- Television Feature Reporting: Tommy Parker of Glen Ellyn, Ill., NewsChannel 12
- Television General News Reporting: Tommy Parker of Glen Ellyn, Ill., NewsChannel 12
- Television In-Depth Reporting: Jacqui Powell of Elizabethtown, NewsChannel 12
- Television Sports Photography: Andrew Bennett of Franklin, Tenn., Extra Point

Brad Pfranger, assistant professor of broadcasting has been elected to the National Press Photographers Association Board of Directors. Pfranger replaces Mark Dolan, who was elected NPPA’s vice president.
