WKU Printer Standards

WKU Printer/Copier Standards

The basic printer support policy is to assist with all printer-related equipment in use by faculty and staff on WKU’s campus. However, the enormous variety of equipment makes it impossible to deliver the same level of service for all devices. Every effort is made to respond to all requests for help, but the level of support may be limited for some printers, depending on their hardware configuration, software configuration, function, age or other factors.

New Printer Purchases

Information Technology maintains support relationships with three approved vendors.  This is to ensure compatibility with University technology hardware and software, ensure it meets industry current standards, and position the University for future expansion and upgrades. Information Technology reserves the right to review all printer purchases. We will make every attempt to meet the needs of the purchasing department while respecting the best interest of the University. Items ordered by bypassing Information Technology’s approval may be explicitly barred from support by Information Technology. WKU IT strongly encourages the purchase of manufacturer warranties on printers that are not covered by a service contract. WKU IT does provide printer hardware support, but the large variety of printers makes it impossible to maintain expert knowledge on each make and model.   Parts purchased in an attempt to resolve a hardware issue may incur a 20% restocking fee, in which the client is responsible, should the repair be unsuccessful.

Support

Printer questions or issues should be reported by contacting the IT Division at: www.wku.edu/helpdesk. WKU IT will work with the client and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve the issue when possible. Please keep the following in mind:

1. WKU  IT does not support inkjet printers and requests for service on inkjet printers will be denied.

2. WKU IT does not support printing to WKU-owned or leased printers from personally-owned computers or mobile devices.

3. WKU IT does not support local address book management, User Authentication or Job Accounting (user specific codes) on WKU-owned or leased multi-function devices. Clients may be asked to work directly with the vendor for these issues.
