New Computer Purchases

Information Technology maintains a list of recommended hardware for new purchases and upgrades/replacements. This list is intended to ensure compatibility with University technology hardware and software, ensure it meets industry current standards, and position the University for future expansion and upgrades. Information Technology reserves the right to review all computer hardware purchases. We will make every attempt to meet the needs of the purchasing department while respecting the best interest of the University. Items ordered by bypassing Information Technology’s approval may be explicitly barred from support by Information Technology. The following guidelines should be followed when purchasing computers:

  • All computers must be purchased using a WKU Purchase Order.
  • All computers must be purchased with an approved 3-year minimum warranty from the manufacturer.
  • All computers are available through WKU Topshop (WKU NetID and password required)
  • All computers must have an Inventory Control Number assigned before WKU IT will provide any service relating to the computer.

Note – If hardware is needed that is not listed or cannot be found in Topshop, please enter an Online Service Request (Choose “Computer and Hardware>Hardware Question or Problem) prior to attempting purchase.

Computer Requirements – All new computers purchased with WKU funds must meet the following minimum criteria:

Desktop Support reviews these standards every six months and makes updates when necessary.
