Exchange Overview
Microsoft
Exchange provides an integrated email, calendaring, and messaging
environment. It is very interoperable with other software and systems
and interfaces well with mobile devices. Aside from a robust email client (Outlook
- PC,
Entourage - MAC) which runs locally on your PC, Exchange web mail uses
Outlook Web Access (OWA) which is one of the best webmail interfaces in
the industry. OWA is almost as fully functional as Outlook and
Entourage.
Also, by
default, all faculty and staff will have access to the Outlook
calendaring system which is integrated with the email clients. Therefore, all employees
will have access to a unified
calendaring system that can be used for individual, departmental, or
university-wide scheduling. Exchange talks to your mobile device as well
or better than anything on the market. We can give instructions for migrating your
personal devices
to Exchange.
Email
Space - one of our goals is to provide substantially more space than is
available on our current email system. Users must still manage their
email space wisely, but more space will help.
