Research Opportunities and Internships

Research Opportunities

There are many research and creative opportunities available to undergraduates. Students can conduct a research or creative project in ANY discipline, no matter their interest.

The Office of Research will help students find research and creative opportunities either on campus with faculty, or off campus with industrial partners.

Benefits of Research

The Office of Research is working to make undergraduate research and creative activities an integral component of the education experience at WKU. Students have an opportunity to gain skills and experience that will be valuable in any career path.

WKU is committed to facilitating valuable relationships between students and faculty, and between students and off-campus organizations. Conducting research or engaging in a creative activity exposes students to experiences that will make a difference in their future career field. We encourage all students to find an area or topic they are interested in and investigate it. The road to research begins here.

Student internships

Student internships provide opportunities for students to gain experience in their field, determine if they have an interest in a particular career, create a network of contacts, or gain school credit. Internships provide employers with cheap or free labor.

Some interns find permanent, paid employment with the companies in which they interned. An internship may be either paid, unpaid or partially paid (in the form of a stipend). Internships may be part-time or full-time and usually last 12–16 weeks, but can be shorter or longer, depending on the company involved.
