Impact on Campus Users.

Migration -- All existing Faculty and Staff PCs (Both MAC and Windows PCs) will be migrated to the Active Directory domain.  In The process will be different depending on whether or not the user PC is MAC or Windows and configured to use Novell.  In addition, all Open Computer Lab PCs must be migrated as will most deparmental lab PCs. Student's personal PCs will not have to be migrated.

Migration Schedule -- IT staff will visit each department and sit down at each user PCs and perform the migration.  IT will coordinate with Deans, Department heads and Unit Administrators to schedule  these migrations.  Ideally, the process will be one whereby an entire departments is migrated at the same time.

Novell Users -- Users who login into Novell and therefore have Novell installed on their work PC will have their PC migrated to Active Directory by a field technician from IT.  Eventually, any files stored on Novell will be moved to Active Directory and Novell will be phased out and inaccessible.  The timing of this will vary from user to user and department to department.

Non-Novell Users -- Users who do not have Novell on their PCs must also have their PC migrated to Active Directory.  These PCs must still be joined to the Active Directory Domain.

New User ID (NetID) -- All WKU users will be assigned a new, unique User ID and password.    The User ID will be called a NetID and will require a strong password that must be changed periodically.   The NetID will become the user ID necessary for accessing many applications including the WKU Portal, Email, Blackboard.   Users will no longer have to remember as many User IDs and passwords to access WKU systems and services.

Individual File Space -- All faculty, staff and students will be assigned individual file space which can be accessed from on or off campus by any PC or device with an internet connection and a supported web browser.   AD users can store and retrieve files and documents from anywhere using their AD NetID and password.  Visit MyStuff Help for more info.
