Organizational Chart

Administrative Systems and Applications (ASA) is a department in the Information Technology Division at WKU. It is organized into six support groups:
  1. Application Programming
  2. Web Development
  3. Database Administration
  4. Systems Administration
  5. Operations
  6. Training/User Support

These groups collaborate to deliver critical information technology services to enterprise constituencies. ASA has approximately 30 full-time staff and a number of student workers.  Staff positions include director, group managers, applications programmers, web developers, systems administrators, database administrators, data center operators and data control, training specialist and support.  See the ASA staff directoryfor more information.

These groups have the following responsibilities:

Application Programming

  • Project Management
  • Application software configuration and support
  • Consulting and systems analysis
  • Programming, report generation, data extraction and interfacing


Web Development

  • Enterprise web application development
  • Web standards development and administration
  • Content Management
  • Existing code base maintenance


Database Administration

  • Managing, tuning, upgrading and security the many underlying relational databases that store application data on all platforms.
  • Installation and upgrades of application software
  • Web Server installation and maintenance
  • Technical Consulting for programmers and systems staff


Operations

  • Data Center operations and security
  • Batch Cycle execution and monitoring
  • Production and delivery of output (hardcopy printouts)


Systems Administration

  • Server hardware and operating system administration
  • Web server installation and maintenance
  • Backup and Disaster Recovery
  • Systems Security and patch management


Training/User Support

  • Development and delivery of training for enterprise applications
  • Training documentation
  • Application testing - upgrades, new development, problem escalation
  • User security setup and access controls
