Research

Dr. Atkinson teaches undergraduate courses in Principles of Management Information Systems, Resource and Process Development, and Database Administration; he has also taught graduate courses in Project Management and Information Strategy. His research interest includes, but is not limited to, the implications of the absence of broadband Internet on adult learning and the effects of simulation software on undergraduate college student spreadsheet skill acquisition.

Dr. A. has over 20 years' experience in the private sector performing a variety of information technology roles. Prior to his career change in 2000, he held the role of Manager, Business Software Services for Commonwealth Industries, where he was directly responsible for information systems strategic planning and solutions implementation. Prior to this role, Dr. Atkinson filled various information technology positions for Lexis-Nexis in Dayton, OH, Celanese Corporation in Louisville, KY, and NCR Corporation in Dayton, OH. Since earning his degree in 2007, he is actively involved in research and university service. He currently serves as the faculty sponsor of the local chapter of Delta Sigma Pi at WKU and was the 2010-2011 recipient of the Chapter Advisor of the Year for the Mid-South Region.
