The Health & Fitness Lab is designed to promote healthier life-styles for students, faculty, staff and the community. It offers a wide array of fitness testing and exercise prescription services to meet all your needs.
Personal Training
Personal Training provides the highest level of one on one service and member interaction. Our certified personal trainers are committed to working with you to meet your individual fitness goals, needs, and interests.

Buddy Personal Training
“Buddy” Training is a group personal training in a semi-private setting (usually 2-3 clients). Buddy Personal Training provides the highest level of group training interaction. Our certified personal trainers are committed to working with each member of the group to meet individual fitness goals, needs, and interests.

Kick Start Program Cost: Students $15.00; Faculty/Staff 25.00; Community $50.00 A comprehensive individualized introduction to weight training and or exercise. Kick Start Program consists of three 60-minutes sessions. The first session will consist of a consultation and exercise prescription designed to meet your individual goals. The following two sessions will involve detailed supervision/instruction through your workout. This service is an extension of the Weight Training Orientation service, adding more sessions of instruction to ensure comprehension of your prescribed fitness program, and to ensure that all of your questions and concerns are addressed. *A medical history form is required and certain individuals will need to get prior physician’s approval. Total Fitness Package
Cost: Students $20.00; Faculty/Staff 30.00; Community $50.00
The Total Fitness Package (five 60-minutes sessions) is a combination of two services into one (Basic Fitness Assessment and the Kickstart). In the first session, clients are evaluated in six areas to determine their current level of fitness. Each area is compared to national norms to identify the client’s strengths and to determine areas that may need a little work. Clients receive a computer printout. The second session is a comprehensive individualized introduction to weight training and or exercise prescription designed to meet your individual goals. The following 2 sessions will involve detailed supervision/instruction through your workout. Semester long (you can start anytime) weight tracking will be done at each personal training session. The final session is a follow-up basic fitness assessment, which re-evaluates the six areas and is done primarily to gauge improvements.

Basic Fitness Assessment
Cost: Students $5.00; Faculty/Staff 10.00; Community $25.00
The Basic Fitness Assessment is our most popular assessment package. Clients are evaluated in six areas to determine their current level of fitness. Each area is compared to national norms to identify the clients strengths and to determine areas that may need a little work. Clients receive a computer printout of their results. This is an excellent way to measure the effectiveness of your fitness program. Basic Fitness Assessment takes about 60 minutes.
Basic Fitness Assessment includes: blood pressure, height, weight, body composition, sub-maximal treadmill test, sit & reach test, grip strength test, partial curl-up test, push-up test.

Skinfold Measurement with Calipers
*COST: Students- FREE, Fac/Staff- FREE, Community- $5
This is the most common method of body fat analysis used in the Health & Fitness Lab. It is very accurate if done by a trained individual. Appointments are available on a walk in basis or by appointment during regular office hours.
IMPORTANT: We require clients to wear shorts and a T-shirt to allow access to the 6 sites of measurement located below. Clients should not work out beforehand or apply any lotions of any kind to ensure accuracy.
Males are measured at the following six sites on the body and females are measured at five sites (excludes site 3).
1. Back of the Arm (Triceps)
2. Along the Shoulder Blade (Scalpula)
3. Side of the Chest
4. Top of the Hip Bone (Illium)
5. Beside the Belly Button (Abdomen)
6. Front of the Leg (Thigh)
OMRON Body Fat Analyzer
Students & Faculty/Staff – FREE; Community - $5.00
OMRON body fat analyzer is the hand-held device that measures your percent body fat in only a few seconds. After inputting the data (height, weight, gender, age), a measurement will be started by simply holding the grip electrodes and pressing the START button. Analyzer measures your body fat with a gentle, micro electrical current (you will not feel anything!). The measurement takes about 5 minutes.
Guidelines to obtain an accurate measurement:
- Do not eat or drink within 4 hours of the measurement
- Do not exercise within12 hours of the measurement
- Urinate prior to taking the measurement
- Abstain from alcohol consumption within 48 hours of the measurement
- Do not ingest diuretics, including caffeine, before the assessment unless they are prescribed by a physician
- Avoid the time of menstruation
Personal Wellness Profile (PWP) Cost: Students $10.00; Faculty/Staff 25.00; Community $30.00 A comprehensive health risk assessment questionnaire, followed by a fitness assessment. The questionnaire and fitness assessment results are scanned into a secure database and you are provided a detailed assessment of your current health status and recommendations for improving the various areas that need improving. PWP takes about 60 minutes.

Beginner/Advanced Weight Training Orientation
Cost: Students $5.00; Faculty/Staff 10.00; Community $25.00
An individualized one time personal fitness consultation leading to the design of a personalized fitness program. Each client will be lead through each component of the fitness program providing ample opportunity to ensure program comprehension. Clients will receive a written individualized exercise program including a tracking sheet where they can monitor their progress and adherence to the program. It takes about 60 minutes.

Health & Fitness Lab Appointment Procedures:
All scheduling is done in person at the Health & Fitness Lab, Room 20A, located in the Preston Center. Appointments must be paid for at the time they are made. Payment may be made in person or over the phone using a credit card.
The Health & Fitness Lab accepts the following payment types: Cash, Check, and VISA & Mastercard.
Payment is non-refundable. However, if you cancel your appointment at least 24 hours in advance, we will reschedule you. If for some reason you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, you may find someone to take your place.

For all Fitness Service appointments. Arrive at your appointment prepared to exercise unless otherwise instructed not to. Your attire should be loose fitting (i.e. t-shirt, shorts) and you should be wearing close toed sport shoes. Please call our office if you have any questions.
You may be instructed to provide us a medical clearance note from your family physician. If so, it may be faxed to us at (270) 745-6543.
If you are interested in receiving a massage through the Health & Fitness Lab and this is the first time you will make an appointment, please fill out the required massage questionnaire and bring it with you when you come to make an appointment. Massage Form.pdf
If you fail to make your appointment on time the time missed (up to 20 mins.) will be subtracted from your scheduled time, if you show up 20minutes or more late for your appointment, your appointment will be forfeited. If you miss your appointment, without rescheduling with 24 hours notice, you appointment will be forfeited.
*Gift Certificates are available for purchase, all gift certificates must be redeemed within one year from the date of purchase. After one year, gift certificates and their associated value will be forfeited.*
