Control Desk Attendant
The Control Desk Staff is responsible
for monitoring the desk area and serving as an area supervisor
for the main entrance. This includes controlling member access
to the Preston Center, handling towel service and equipment checkout,
and answering questions on Preston Center programs and policies.
The Control Desk Staff also greets patrons, answers the phone,
addresses questions about Preston Center facilities, takes messages,
makes reservations, and attends to light housekeeping duties.
Weight Room Attendant
The Weight Room Staff is responsible
for assisting Preston Center members in the safe and proper use
of the exercise equipment available in the building. The primary
duties include supervision of member activities, preventative maintaince
and inspecting all equipment, and policy enforcement.
Lifeguard
The primary role of a lifeguard is to ensure the safety of patrons in and
around the pool and throughout the facility. Duties include but are not
limited to, supervision of patrons, cleaning, policy enforcement, and
coordinating use of all audio equipment. Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding,
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid certifications (or equivalent)
are required. Certification for Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguarding
Instructor are highly recommended. Previous lifeguarding experience is
preferred. A high level of maturity and the desire to work as part of
a team are also expected.
ORAC Attendant
The ORAC attendant is responsible
for the supervision of the Outdoor Recreation and Adventure Center. Primary
duties include outdoor equipment rental and Pro Shop transactions, reservations,
inventory, and answering questions. Attendants may also assist in trip
planning, coordinating, and conducting clinics. Students should have a
working knowledge of wilderness recreation and equipment. American Red
Cross AED/CPR and First Aid. Wilderness First Responder is highly recommended.
Student Supervisors
Student Supervisors assist in the
surveillance of the facility throughout the evening (3-11pm). They increase
the attentiveness of the student staff to maintenance, safety, and policy
issues. This person responds to all problems and issues, particularly
those that cannot be addressed by the building supervisor for one reason
or another. This can and does occur as a result of the above-mentioned
staff members being occupied by meetings, phone calls, and general business
matters. This position is to be trained in American Red Cross AED/CPR/First
Aid and deemed as a second responder in an accident situation. This position
acts as the ever-present eyes and ears of the facility staff for all events,
programs, and open recreation.
Office Associate
Health & Fitness Lab Office Student Worker
The office student worker works under direct supervision of the Office Associate during the normal working hours of the HF Lab. This position requires the student to answer phones, make appointments, make copies, and do miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Office Associate, Assistant Director, Fitness Coordinator, and Exercise Coordinator. This position requires that the student have excellent communication, people, and computer skills.
Intramural Sports Office Student Worker
The office student worker works under the direction of the Office Associate. The office student worker will also do work for the Director, Assistant Directors, Coordinators, and Graduate Assistants. This person is in charge of answering the front desk phone, helping students with Intramural questions, and setting up new members for the PHAC, knowing and organizing Camp Big Red materials. This is a very responsible position, which requires that the student have excellent communication, people, and computer skills as well as being very knowledgeable about the PHAC and all related programs.
