Thursday,
February 14, 2002 – Bowling Green to Nashville to LAX
Kevin, Cheryl and Jerry drove to Nashville.
The talk was of the excitement of the trip and how to stay safe.
Kevin and I were both getting the message that we were to keep low and be
careful, but ALSO get out and see many things.
Mixed messages. We will do
both.
Being that is was
Kevin’s first flight since 1996 AND first overseas, he was
dreading the trip over more than any thing.
BNA to LAX was 4.5 hours, but we made it fine.
LAX.
Six hours to wait… until 12:30 AM.
This was way past K’s bedtime and he’d been up since 4 AM. The ticket counter would open at 9:30 pm and UCLA was
on the tube, so we grabbed a few beers (etc).
My voice was starting to go by now and the cough lingered.
At 9:30 we found the line to the ticket counter stretched half the length
of the hall.
However,
the line through security stretched outside and back to the other terminals!
One step at a time. We got
in line and met a guy from DC who was going to visit his father in China.
His parents were Korean. We
chatted, Kevin very good at this, and made our way up the line.
When we reached the XRAY, the security guy told us that we didn’t need
to be there and could go right to the counter.
UGH! 20 minutes and the
security line was just getting longer. We
got the counter quickly. I went
first and got my boarding pass. Kevin
was next. I told him I’d get in the security line and disappeared.
K finished and sought me. He
went the direction I had. He walked
up and down the line and couldn’t find me.
Finally, he saw the line at the end of the terminal.
He found me there, none too happy. I
had looked at both lines and thought this one a bit shorter and moving faster.
10:30 pm. We reached the
gate past security at 11:40 pm. K was really tired by now and so was I. Bye bye LAX.
