Organization

The composition of the IEC includes: one representative from each college appointed upon consultation with the Dean; the department head of Modern Languages; one department head appointed by the provost; and a student involved in international education (in consultation with SGA). Ex-officio members include: the Chief Internationalization Officer; the Director of the Office of International Programs; the Director of Study Abroad and Global Learning; the Visiting Scholar Services supervisor; the Director of the Honors College; and the Coordinator of International Recruiting. The Provost will appoint a faculty member to chair the council.

The role of the IEC is crucial as WKU becomes A Leading American University with International Reach. The role of the IEC is to implement the plan to internationalize the curriculum, assist faculty, staff, and students and to develop strategic alliances in the community.

The college liaisons, who serve as the foundation for the IEC, are charged to:

  • Provide leadership and support to internationalization efforts and to serve as a conduit for information and ideas between the university internationalization efforts and those of the individual faculty, programs, departments, and college;
  • Help in the development and assessment of learning objectives, skill sets, and goals for the programs, departments and colleges;
  • Help link international QEP goals to each college;
  • Encourage faculty and staff development in international teaching, research, and service; and
  • Work closely with other college liaisons to help foster an atmosphere of cooperation between all units of the university.
