For Profit with Aaron Calafato:
In the Spring 2014 semester, the WKU Institute for Citizenship and Social Responsibility (ICSR), in collaboration with the BB&T Center for the Study of Capitalism and the WKU Department of Theatre and Dance, hosted For Profit, a one-man play by activist and playwright Aaron Calafato. Based on Calafato's experience of working as an admissions counselor at a for-profit college, For Profit examines such colleges, and the practices of the for-profit educational industry. Further, the play raises the issue of the student debt crisis that has left Americans with over a trillion dollars in student loan debt—a number that is continuing to increase. Dr. Judy Rohrer, Director of ICSR, notes that "ICSR has a goal to critically analyze contemporary social, economic and political problems. Bringing this play to WKU is a great way to raise awareness of the economic instabilities and inequalities within higher education." Rohrer adds, "it's also a great way to promote collaboration between different departments and units at WKU."
