Western Kentucky University

Honors College at WKU

In the Summer of 2011, 40 students and several faculty from different universities across Kentucky traveled with the Kentucky Institute for International Studies (KIIS) to Paris, France. With Paris as their classroom, the students studied everything from psychology and literature to the French language and culture. On the weekends, the students had many unique opportunities to see other parts of France, including visiting the castles in the Loire Valley and walking the beaches of Normandy on June 5th, the day before the 67th anniversary of the D-Day invasions.

Whitney Reno, a senior Spanish and French major traveled as part of this group and had nothing but good things to say about the trip. "After spending a weekend in Paris during my semester at Harlaxton, I knew I had to go back. One weekend wasn't nearly enough time to see all that Paris had to offer, and I soon found out that a whole month wasn't enough time either. It was an incredible experience to be able to study the French language in such an interactive way; instead of practicing conjugations in a classroom, we took a bus to a market and had conversations with Parisians. It was an opportunity that I am truly thankful for and I can't wait to go back and see more!"
