Title

Assistant Professor of Honors Interdisciplinary Studies and Co-Director of the Institute for Citizenship and Social Responsibility

Educational Background

I received my Ph.D. from Durham University.

Academic Interests

I am primarily interested in the methods and practice of community organizing and development. I am committed to collaborative approaches to solving complex social problems and seek to bring the scholarship of community-based research and teaching to bear on these issues. I am also interested in philosophies of moral formation and transformation. I am the author of Rewired: Exploring Religious Conversion, which is an interdisciplinary exploration of the phenomenon of religious conversion in the context of community. I am interested in the sociology of institutional and community life and the exploration of how and why individuals become committed to civic action. My latest research explores the ideological characteristics and organizing practices of the emerging "New Evangelical" movement in the United States.

Little About Myself

I live in Bowling Green with my wife, Brandi Barnes Markham and my dog, Kai. I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with friends and family.
