Immunizations & Vaccines

There are no immunization requirements to attend Western Kentucky University.  Students do not need to supply proof of having received any vaccines.

WKU Health Services does, however, recommend that students are updated with the most current vaccines.

In 2004 Kentucky House Bill 342 and KY House Bill 149 were passed. In order to satisfy these requirements, and as part of our mission to provide health education to our students, please see the detailed information on these bills listed below.

KY House Bill 342 is AN ACT relating to vaccination for meningococcal meningitis disease.

"Each public or private educational institution that offers a postsecondary degree and has a residential campus shall provide vaccination information on meningococcal meningitis disease to full-time students living in resident housing.

The vaccine information shall be contained in the student housing or enrollment application or lease document and shall include a space for the student to indicate whether or not the student has received the vaccination against meningococcal meningitis disease."

KY House Bill 149 is AN ACT relating to Hepatitis B vaccinations for postsecondary students.

"All public and independent postsecondary education institutions shall provide first-time students with information about hepatitis B disease."
