What is Hepatitis?
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver caused by medicine, alcohol or a variety of other factors including a number of viruses. For instance, the virus that causes infectious mononucleosis (Mono) can cause hepatitis. There are also a number of specific “Hepatitis viruses” (A, B, C and others) that cause the same problem. When a health care provider is speaking about “viral hepatitis’ s/he is generally referring to one of these viruses.
Does Health Services offer the Hepatitis A & B Vaccine?
Yes, and there are a few options. There is a separate vaccine for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. There is also a vaccine that combines the two (TwinRix). If you have never received either vaccine, we recommend that you receive the combination. Current CDC recommendations now include vaccination for Hepatitis A for a large portion of the population. The cost of the Hepatitis B vaccine is $115 per injection (3 separate injections). The cost of the Hepatitis A vaccine is $115 per injection (2 separate injections). The cost of the TwinRix (combination Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B) is $135 per injection (3 separate injections).
