You don't have to give up allergy treatments while you're away from home! Health Services will continue the immunotherapy routine prescribed by your allergist. Our experienced staff will work with your allergist to maintain your treatment plan, by administering your serum and monitoring you for any adverse reactions. As a courtesy, we will gladly store your serum free of charge if you are receiving allergy injections on a regular basis. Allergy patients must are required to wait a minimum of 20 minutes after receiving their injection.
WKU Health Services does not perform allergy testing or initiate allergy therapy. If you are not currently under an allergist's care, please talk with your primary care provider and review your health insurance plan for referral information.
If you have never received allergy shots at WKUHS, you will be asked to complete an allergy patient health information form before your first visit. You will also be asked to update this form annually.
Important Allergy Injection Information
Most serious allergic reactions occur in the first 20 to 30 minutes following allergy injections. According to the American Association of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (AAAAI) the minimum wait time following allergy injections is 20 minutes, however your wait time will depend on your allergist recommendations. WKUHS supports the AAAAI recommendation and as of September 4, 2012 all allergy patients will be required to wait a minium of 20 minutes after receiving their allergy injection(s). Please allow enough time in your schedule for this waiting period. Please note, allergy injections will not be administered after 4:00pm due to the required wait time.
