What is TopperWell? TopperWell is a group of WKU students who are peer health educators and work together to promote wellness by increasing awareness of student health issues and encouraging positive lifestyle choices and decision-making skills through peer education.

What are the responsibilities of a TopperWell member?

To provide a minimum of 2 office hours per week
· Attend weekly meetings (Mondays at 3:30 pm, Health Services building located on the corner of Regents and Normal)
· Attend trainings - one offered during the Fall semester, and a program planning "retreat" during the Spring semester
· Develop, promote, and present health education programs, presentations, and activities on campus
· Serve as a health education resource to WKU students
· Complete assignments as directed - duties usually include preparation for upcoming events, marketing advertisements, and handout/brochure development.
· Assist in evaluation of health education programs, presentations, and activities
· Help recruit future TopperWell members throughout the academic year

Why should I apply to become a TopperWell?
· Gain professional work experience while in school
· Take the Peer Health Education Class (PH 382) for 3 hour class credit and gain valuable experience
· Receive class credit through an independent study course - check with your department to determine if possible
· Receive certification and training as a Peer Educator
· Develop communication, leadership, and organizational skills
· Increase public speaking and promotion skills
· Gain knowledge in several areas of health and wellness (ex: HIV/AIDS, STI's, alcohol, club drugs, tobacco, stress management, healthy relationships, mental health issues, nutrition, etc.)
· Meet new people, make new friends
· Impact WKU students through "positive peer pressure"

How much will it take to be a TopperWell? TopperWell members must commit to work during an academic year. Members will be required to attend a peer education training during a weekend of September in the Fall semester, as well as attend weekly meetings. Members will work approximately 2-4 hours per week as determined by projects, awareness events/programs, meetings, trainings, and office hours.

TopperWell recruitment takes place each Spring semester. However, we will accept applications throughout the academic year.
