  • Let’s Have a Social Committee!! We want to have retreats a couple of times a semester and it would be great to have some people organize this a few times a year. We’d also like to host different events where GreenToppers can have an opportunity to meet and socialize with other GTs.

Earth Hour

Need Adoption, Contact Sara- sara.ferguson422@edu

  • On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour. This massive collective effort reduced Sydney's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for one hour.

With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off, and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice. Inspired by the collective effort of millions of Sydneysiders, many major global cities are joining Earth Hour in 2008, turning a symbolic event into a global movement. earthhour.org

Projects Needing Adoption
  • Move out Collection Drive
February might seem like a strange time to be thinking about the end of the semester, but the earth, WKU, and the GreenToppers need you and your ideas. In the style of fall semester's cardboard drive, we plan on staging a move-out drive that will save on-campus students' unwanted but perfectly usable clothing, books, furniture, non-perishable foods and other items from the dumpster. GreenToppers will store all the items until a fundraising yard sale can be held at a later date. Any input, especially from people who live in residence halls (or have moved out of residence halls), is appreciated! Please contact Nelda (nelda.ault718@wku.edu) or
    Sara (sara.ferguson422@wku.edu).

  • Move Out Collection
HRL and GreenToppers would like to have a move out collection. Donate the stuff you don't want to take home and save from the landfill. We can take clothes, bookshelves, books, ..... anything I think. We are going to need volunteers for the collections sites and somewhere to store everything... if you are interested in helping please contact Nelda or Sara. We are going to re-sell everything as a GT fundraiser!

  • Change the Margins. Change the default margins to .75 or .5 when printing
    http://www.changethemargins.org/

  • Spread the Word!! President Ransdell signed the Tailloires!! What is the Talloires? http://www.tufts.edu/talloiresnetwork/downloads/TalloiresDeclaration2005.pdf  We want him to know that we are so excited about this and hope to see him sign more commitments in the future!

  • Start a campaign to get students, faculty, and staff at Western to sign a petition to encourage President Ransdell to sign the President’s Climate Commitment

  • Start an awareness campaign to encourage purchasing departments and other’s responsible for buying things for our campus to buy more sustainable and recycled goods

  • We need a PR Person… we want to reach out to other groups on campus and create more partnerships. We would love to have a PR person to keep in contact with other groups in our community and let them know what GT is doing as well. This person would have to be at most, if not all, GT meetings. Great resume builder! Please email green.toppers@wku.edu if you are interested.

  • 5 Year Goal: We would like to be able to bring in our own coffee mugs/plate ware to Fresh Food or anything other restaurant on campus! How can we do that?

  • Encourage and Promote ‘Green Gardens’ on our rooftops on campus!

  • Send other suggestions for this list to sara.ferguson422@wku.edu

If you are interested in leading any of these projects, please email green.toppers@wku.edu, or come to a meeting and find some help!
