phi•lan•thro•py n. 1. The effort or inclination to increase the well-being of humankind, as by charitable aid or donations. Service Greeks take pride in community service and philanthropy. Each chapter has a foundation or charity they sponsor through philanthropic events. Sororities and fraternities sponsor a multitude of activities each year to impact the local community and raise money for their special philanthropies. Members of the Greek Community also take pride in contributing to each other's events. Greeks also have the opportunity to get involved with campus-wide philanthropies. These include service projects during St. Jude’s /Up ‘Til Dawn/ and the American Cancer Society’s /Relay for Life/. The opportunities members will have to help benefit philanthropic organizations and the community are endless. This ability is one of the most important qualities new members will develop while being a part of a sorority or fraternity. |
