Food & Agriculture, Globalization, Poverty & Inequality, Social Problems, and Marriage & Family.

A recent graduate of the Community & Environmental Sociology program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I have an expertise in agri-food systems and rural restructuring and development. I have a particular interest in the intersection between processes of globalization and localization of agriculture and food.

My dissertation research focused on the survival strategies of household-based producers in a burley tobacco producing community in Northeastern Argentina.  In Kentucky, I have held positions as an Extension Associate for Health and served as a consultant on numerous research projects, including an assessment of local food activities in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and an evaluation of ASP’s New Homeownership Program for low-income families.  While at UW-Madison, I was a co-coordinator for the Students for Sustainable Agriculture, overseeing a half-acre student garden.

PhD, University of Wisconsin at Madison - 2010.

I was born and raised in Lexington, KY and am enthusiastic about returning to my home state to teach. I look forward to integrating community-based research and service learning opportunities into the classroom.
