I am a special education teacher in Bowling Green City Schools and I currently teach students with extreme behavior disability at the Warren Regional Juvenile Detention Center (Bowling Green Independent has a school in the detention center). I have worked at WKU part-time for the past 10 years in the EXED Department as an adjunct instructor. In addition, I farm full-time in Simpson County and primarily raise Black Angus Cattle along with a herd of alpacas, a few horses, chickens, dogs, cats, rabbits, swans, ducks, geese...the usual farm animals.
I completed my undergraduate degree at WKU with majors in Middle Grades Education, Special Education, and Foreign Language (In my first career, I was a flight attendant for an international company and traveled all over the world visiting every continent except Antarctica, a place I plan to visit someday). I earned a masters degree from Vanderbilt University in special education with an emphasis in teaching children who are blind and visually impaired. I also do consulting work now and teach Braille and low vision skills. I returned to WKU and finished a Rank I in ESL.
In public school, I teach students who are incarcerated and exhibit extreme behaviors. I enjoy coming to work every day and have learned that ALL students want to do well in school. It is my job to motivate each of them to reach their maximum potential. At the university, I teach in the Teacher Education Department. I thoroughly enjoy assisting students as they complete coursework to become certified teachers.
