Programming for Young People Who Are Gifted and Talented

VAMPY LabMost tend to think that gifted people are simply exceptionally smart in either mathematics or verbal areas. That’s not true. The definition actually includes much more. A gifted student possesses demonstrated or potential ability to perform at an exceptionally high level in general intellectual aptitude, specific academic aptitude, creative or divergent thinking, psychosocial or leadership skills, or in the visual or performing arts. With such a wide range of abilities, the task of educating these people becomes very complex.

Educational programming for children and youth who are gifted and talented is essential for two reasons. Children who learn at a faster pace and at a more complex level deserve the opportunity to do so. They also need time to be with other young people who think like they do and who share their interests. For some students, a two- or three-week period in the summer is the boost they need to carry them through the year. We offer a variety of programs geared to the gifted and talented, no matter the school age.
