Notes by Cirlyn the Colourful

Well that was certainly interesting. Personally I like crowds; there?s always someone interesting to see and there are so many people around that there?s always someone to talk or watch. Plus you won?t believe how many people just drop things and it?s always nice to help someone out by picking the things up. It?s sad, though, when you can?t return something to someone it belongs to. That seems to keep happening to me. However there?s a point where a crowd turns into a riot and those just aren?t too much fun. And, unfortunately, the crowd had passed way too far into becoming a riot. Fortunately I had managed to get Sergeant Krewiss out safely; now we just had to extricate ourselves from the situation. That proved to be easier than I suspected and we all arrived safely back at my house through different routes.

That Maavu guy was not at my house with the warlock guy and the rest of them by the time the heavy dwarf, that loud annoying barbarian, and I arrived. (I still don?t have any idea why he?s always yelling.) Oh well, maybe he?s just naturally loud or maybe he?s under a spell. That would be interesting. Maybe he?ll let me examine his head. But back to the point. The warlock said that Maavu told him to tell us to meet him at Redgorge at the Saucy Maiden Inn. He gave the warlock some sort of coded phrase to say once we got there. The old man decided that it would probably be best to hear both sides of the story and I agreed with him. So we sent a message to Sergeant Krewiss letting him know that we wished to speak with him. Since there was nothing else to do, we all went to sleep. Well, most everyone did, anyway. Did you know that people tend to drop things in their sleep? Well, I found that out recently, so I just walked around my house, picking up those things that were lost. I really wish I could give them back to their owners.

Krewiss sent word back the next day that he would meet with us and sure enough when we went to the Tipped Tankard Inn, there he was. The old man tried to get him to turn against the mayor and the rest of the city government but to no avail. Krewiss was as loyal to the government as he was honorable. However I think that he may have just been concerned about the city itself rather than with the current government. If we could find proof of the corruption or find out what was truly going on I?m sure he would help us. And with his support I have the feeling that the rest of the actual city guard would follow. The brutish half-orcs would be the only problem if it came to a fight. As it was, we gained some interesting information from him until we were interrupted by someone yelling.

They were yelling about fire demons at an inn down the road. And sure enough we could see smoke rising across the city. By the time we all reached the site, the fire was going nicely. We arrived just in time to see a half-orc captain threatening what appeared to be the innkeeper. I heard him say something about killing him and was about to intervene when screams came from inside the burning inn. There were people still trapped inside! First things first. The others could deal with the stupid half-orc; my magic would be needed to fight the fires raging inside. Plus, we still hadn?t seen any sign of the fire demons that people had been yelling about.

As I approached the door of the inn the dwarf ran past me and tore the door off its hinges. Through the flying pieces of wood I spotted the source of the blaze: two huge fire elementals. I?d never seen elementals that big before. It was impressive to say the least. Unfortunately, or fortunately, as the case may be?you?d have to ask the old man which it is?I realized I was out of my depth. Most of my spells harnessed the power of elemental fire. They would be of little use against these creatures. I did, however, have one spell in my arsenal that would be more than effective against them and it should put out a great deal of the flames also. Hopefully, it would give the people inside a chance to escape through the back. I reached into the recesses of my mind and pulled it forth. As I mouthed the necessary arcane phrases, I felt a chill pass through my body and finally settle in my hands, which were flying through a sequence of motions too quick for all but a mages eye to follow. I nearly laughed at the frost forming around my hands; this was the fun part. I looked inside the inn and determined the precise placement of the spell and looked directly at the huge elementals and smiled as I said the last word of the incantation, ?Diventare Ghiaccio.? And then their world became very, very cold.

As powerful as I was, I knew that my small knowledge of ice would not hurt them very much but I had no idea how right I was. After the swirling hail and snow from my spell died off, they came at me and they did not bother to use the door. They came right through the walls of the inn, nearly destroying that entire face of the building in the process. Thankfully, the warlock managed to get in the way of one of them but it took him down fast and the other couldn?t quite reach me. The old man tried talking to the elementals but to no avail. The stupid half-orc chimed in at this point and yelled to his fellow soldiers to kill the old man and that he had summoned the elementals. I don?t think the situation could have gotten much worse at that point.

I backed off and managed to get off a lightning bolt, frying a few of the half-orcs and hitting one of the elementals. At that point the old man made a motion with his hand and suddenly a huge wave of water came from the lake at the center of the city and washed completely over the elementals and the rest of the party. I escaped the huge wave only because I was standing behind the old man. Everyone else got caught up in it and thrown forward except the half-orc leader, who, after seeing the wave, ran for his life. Of course, the fact that it killed the rest of his men could have had something to do with it. Either way, he?s a stupid coward. Vishnak would be ashamed. Actually, I think Vishnak might just hunt him down and hurt him. Oh well, it?s not very important. What is important is that the water seemed to hurt the elementals a lot. It was rather interesting really. I definitely need to look into this whole ?god? thing. It looks like it could have great uses.

But from that point on the fight seemed to go rather badly. The elementals kept hitting us and lighting us on fire. Well not lighting me on fire; I managed to escape with little to no injury. I love mirror image spells and protection from energy spells. And the second wall of water that the old man summoned and that I managed to keep between the fire elemental that was chasing me was also nice. I managed to distract the one while the rest of the party took care of the other one. Eventually, though, I ran out of usable spells and the party was in pretty bad shape. Luckily at that point a priest and a half-orc shaman ran up with some of the city?s water control rods and finished off the elementals. Unfortunately, during the fight Krewiss met his end.

We decided to take Sergeant Krewiss to the Temple of the Hooded One, hoping they would revive him. They said they would and while everyone else was talking to the high priestess I wandered off in search of my usual church cocoa. A helpful neonate told me where I could find the kitchens and led me there. These people are so nice. When I returned we decided to go to Redgorge and get to the source of why the great paladin, Alek Tercival, was missing. We thought the people who bought his family land might have captured him. I can?t remember their name.

Before we set out, we went to an interesting little store where Alek sold his non-magical finds. Unfortunately the old man who ran the store didn?t know anything more than we did. But he did let us buy this really neat artifact. On one side is an inscription of some six-armed figure and on the other is a rough map. I wonder where it leads? I just love following maps and exploring. But, it has Redgorge located on the map, and Maavu said to meet him in Redgorgre, and the old man things that we need to go to Redgorge. And so off we go to Redgorge.
