GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS MINOR [#366)

For the Geography minor in GIS, a minimum of 22 semester hours are required, with at least 12 semester hours at the 300 and 400 level. For major requirements in this track, refer back to the Geography and Geology homepage. The GIS Minor provides a foundation for Geographic Information Systems. The Minor is appropriate for students interested in careers utilizing GIS as an analytical tool in such areas as geography, geology, biology, political science, business, journalism and broadcasting, engineering, and public health, or for students pursuing GIS as a profession in a related discipline such as computer science or computer information systems. The Department recommends strongly that students take GEOG217 at the end of the sophomore or beginning of the junior year.
