   Simpson County was formed on January 28, 1819.  The county is 236 square miles and is located on the border with Tennessee.  The county seat of Simpson County is Franklin.  Simpson County was named after Capt. John Simpson.  The earliest settlement in the county was at Bracken’s Ford.  The county has remained primarily agricultural throughout its history and this has continued through the present day.  The primary crop of the county is corn.
