Bullitt County was formed in December of 1796 and is located in the Western Bluegrass Region.  The county covers an area of 300 square miles and its county seat is Shepherdsville.  The county was named after Kentucky’s first lieutenant governor, Alexander Scott Bullitt.  The first settlers were attracted to the area because of salt processing.  Whiskey distilling, manufacturing, printing, and quarrying are the major industries in the county.
