Barren County was formed on December 20, 1798, and is located in south-central Kentucky.  The county covers an area of 482 square miles and its county seat is Glasgow.  Many of the early settlers were Revolutionary War veterans from Virginia.  In addition many of the settlers of Barren County had heritages that could be traced back to Scotland.  In the 19th century there was a spur line of what is now the CSX railroad that connected Park City and Cave City to Mammoth Cave in an attempt to bring in economic development.  Agriculturally, tobacco is the main cash crop of the county.  The industrial growth that is present in the County is centered on the city of Glasgow.
