GEOL xxx Experimental, Special, and One-Time Courses in Geology
CONTENT: Each semester, the Department offers special, experimental,
or one-time courses designed to address current issues and new ideas in geology, or to take advantage of the interests
of visiting or adjunct faculty. Prequisites: NONE. No credit towards the Geology Major unless specified and
approved by the advisor.
OFFERED:Next offered Spring 2003 Semester:
GEOL 106 -- GEOLOGY IN THE MOVIES. Offered Bi-Term A for 8 weeks (1.5 hours credit).
This course examines how Hollywood has depicted Geology and Geologists in the movies. The course adresses both facts and
fallacies in selected movies and explores basic geological processes. Selected films are viewed and critiqued by the students.

GEOL 107 --BACKYARD GEOLOGY. Offered Bi-Term B for 8 weeks (1.5 hours credit).
This course explores the local surroundings and how geology relates to what students may see or experience in day-to-day life. Field trips are an important portion of this course,
with explanations of general geologic processes provided to explain wha is seen in the field. The class provides a good general education
in local geology.

GEOL 495 and GEOL 495G -- EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE FOR TEACHERS. A semester-long, online course aimed at earth science content development for
