GEOL 490  Petroleum Geology

CONTENT:  This course examines the concepts of oil formation, source-rock evaluation, thermal maturation, and petroleum migration. Emphasis is placed on the characterization of petroleum reservoirs and traps and on the techniques employed by geologists in exploration for oil and gas accumulations. A field trip is required in this course. Prerequisite:  GEOL370 or its equivalent.  3 hours.
