
GEOL 480 Coal Geology
CONTENT: This course examines the characteristics, origins, and
occurrences of coal and coal-bearing strata. Relations between depositional
environment and coal characteristics, techniques in coal exploration, and the
evaluation of coal prospects are emphasized. A field trip is required in this
course. Petrographic description and classification are studied in the
laboratory. Prerequisite: GEOL370 or its equivalent. 4 hours.
