GEOL 350  Petrology

CONTENT:  This course studies the origin, characteristics, occurrence, and classification of igneous and metamorphic rocks, and the processes that lead to their formation. Their occurrence in relation to plate tectonics is stressed. Laboratory work includes the petrographic study of igneous and metamorphic rocks in hand specimen and in thin section. A field trip is required for this course. Prerequisite:  GEOL330.  4 hours.
