GEOL 112  Historical Geology

CONTENT:  This course studies the history of the earth. Major land, sea, and life patterns throughout geologic time are stressed. Topics include the development of geology as a science, the nature and significance of the rock and fossil record, geologic time, basic stratigraphic relationships, theories concerning the origin of the Earth and solar system, prehistoric life, paleogeography, and global tectonics. Associated laboratory work (GEOL114) is required for ALL geology majors and minors, but it is optional for other students. Prerequisite:  GEOL111 or GEOL102.  3 hours. Satisfies General Education category D-I.
