About Us

National History

Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority was founded by six organizations:  Alpha Gamma Chi, Booster Squad of Brooklyn College, Gamma Sigma Sigma, Omega Service Sorority, Phi Gamma and the Women’s Service Organization.

In October 1952, representatives met for the Constitutional Convention at Beekman Towers in New York City. During the weekend, the group decided on a name, colors, and the first charters were given to the schools in attendance. October 12, 1952 is recognized as the national founder’s day of Gamma Sigma Sigma National Service Sorority.

Beta Sigma Chapter

Beta Sigma Chapter was founded on November 17, 1968 at the campus of Western Kentucky University. Having friends as members of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, these women wanted to be a part of a sorority which strived for similar goals. With the help from the local APO chapter these women got involved in what later became the chartering our Beta Sigma chapter.

Gamma Sigma Sigma was the first service sorority to be founded Western Kentucky Unversity dedicated to service and allowed women of all races to become members. One member early to our chapter is former Gamma Sigma Sigma National President, Nancy Crane.
