Beta Sigma at Western Kentucky University

Members of the Beta Sigma chapter participate in a number of campus activities and organizations. Our members are part of such organizations as: the Residential Hall Association, Dynamic Leadership Institute, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, N.A.A.C.P., Amazing Tones of Joy, Zeta Phi Beta, Delta Sigma Theta, and the Student Government Association. The Beta Sigma chapter strives to strengthen campus involvement and work together with other organizations to better the campus and community. The following is a list of activities/philanthropies our chapter sponsors on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

During the Fall

Dream Date Auction: September 2007 marked our 7th Annual Dream Date Auction. Every year this event benefits a different nonprofit organization. Last year, the programs fundraised for the Alex's Lemonade Foundation. The program featured more than 10 WKU students (male and female) representing dinners and movie dates to a number of Bowling Green locations.

Talent Explosion: The 11th Annual Talent Explosion continued to bring out a large crowd. nine years of the program. That year we raised enough proceeds to purchase pillows and pillowcases for the beds at B.R.A.S.S. (Barren River Area Safe Space), eight boxes of canned goods for the Salvation Army, Toys for Tots, and a $200 prize for the winner. The Talent Explosion takes place every November around the time of our chapter anniversary.

During the Spring

Informational Tables: The Beta Sigma Chapter provides a number of informational tables for the students and faculty of Western Kentucky University. Informational tables include: Lupus Awareness, AIDS awareness, Nutrition Awareness, Child Abuse Awareness, and Cancer Awareness. At each table students can pick up brochures and views audiovisuals on the subject, and depending on the table, we may fundraise for the particular charity.

Remembering Our History:The Annual Remembering Our History program brings together WKU students and organizations to educate the audience and celebrate Black History. The Beta Sigma strives to present this program each year to raise money for the American Sickle Cell Anemia Association.

Best Man at Western: The Best Man at Western program usually takes place during the spring service week. Male student participate in a number of catergories to win $300, which includes $150 in cash and $150 gift certificate for books for the fall semester.

Set it Off: The Set it Off Saturday starts the Beta Sigma Spring Service Week, during national volunteer week. This signature Saturday began in 1999. The day begins with a service project, then a "feed the campus" cookout, and a program that night. The cookout is designed to provide a meal to the students and faculty celebrating the end of the school year.
