History and Founding
Western Kentucky University's award-winning speech and debate program, the school's oldest student organization, has formed an alumni group that bears the name of a 1956 graduate and champion debater.
The Western Kentucky University Forensic Team announced today that its new alumni group will be called the Elizabeth McWhorter Harden Forensics Alumni Association.

Hall of Fame Inductees and KY Speaker of the Year

The Elizabeth McWhorter-Harden Forensic Alumni Association hosted it's first annual Kentucky Speaker of the Year awards ceremony, also using the opportunity for it's own Hall of Fame induction. This marks the first of many inductees in the years to come. The inaugural class includes Dr. Elizabeth McWhorter-Harden, Mr. Randall Capps, and Dr. Barbara Burch. Also in attendance was Kentucky Speaker of the House, Jody Richards, who received the first Kentucky Speaker of the Year award. This award is conferred annually for excellence in communication.

Team Wins 3rd National Title In 4 Years; Two Team Members Claim Individual Championships

The 2006 American Forensic Association National Individual Events Tournament proved to be a competition of firsts for WKU's forensic team. WKU topped ninety-two other schools, with a total of 432.5 sweepstakes points, on the way to capturing its third national team sweepstakes title in four years. The April 1-3 tournament was hosted by the University of Florida.
Natalie Sintek became the first WKU team member to win the national individual sweepstakes award. Sintek beat out 197 other competitors to win the national title, and was the first to claim the award as a sophomore. Only students who compete in four or more events are considered for the title.

We've created a Hall of Fame page, which is currently blank. At the top of that page is a nomination form. Any duely-paid member can nominate anyone they wish. The Board will determine the members of this Hall of Fame democratically. Visit the Hall of Fame page here.

As the new school year comes around the bend, we have finished collecting our information. The roster for Western's team (including 19 new members), as well as it's coaches, during the 2005-2006 school year is finished. We also have the team's travel schedule mapped out. History page receives major update

The Awards History page has received the much anticipated massive addition of team photos and membership lists from our earliest recordings in 1914 to the present. Currently, we still need to add 1970 to 1989. The remainder has been posted in the interrum.
