I went to Alice Lloyd College, which is a small Christian school in Appalachia, in Knott County. I started out going into English Education, but I ended up with a Bachelor's in English.
When I got out of college, I started really getting into foods, so I worked at a winery for a little while. That was fantastic! My friend went through the Folk Studies Program, and she got me into it, saying, "You should do Foodways."
The Foodways thing is really the introduction to it, but then, the more my friend started talking about folklore, the way she was talking about it intrigued me. It's like anthropology about the people. It's also the study of what we're doing now in our culture like with the Internet memes.
I'm from Mitchell, Indiana. I'm a Hoosier.
I am completely deaf in my left ear. I'm pretty good at hiding it because I'm pretty well organized to be on the correct side of people so that my right ear is out.
