"I am a folklorist because I love people. I value the wisdom in stories told on their
own terms and believe everyone has something to contribute."

Educational Highlights:
MaryKate earned her B.A. in Comparative Cultures and Politics from Michigan State
University and graduated with honors. She also earned a specialization in public relations
and worked as the PR Coordinator for the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities.
She enjoyed interviewing students with disabilities to develop an oral history of
the RCPD.
Next at WKU:
MaryKate is excited to expand her oral history experience and interviewing skills
at Western. She also looks forward to aspects of folklore that are new to her, like
vernacular architecture. She is especially interested in studying motherhood and maritime
culture.
On the Inside:
MaryKate describes herself as an eternal optimist. She loves coloring books and Disney
movies as much as any toddler. MaryKate is passionate about sailing and is happiest
on the deck of her boat, Tortuga, cutting through the waves of Lake Michigan.
