Non-credit Workshops

Our regularly scheduled spring workshops have concluded until the fall. If you are interested in scheduling a fly casting workshop or a fly tying workshop for a group or yourself before then, please contact WKU Continuing Education

Fly casting workshop: $149

  • Personal instruction
  • Properly identify the parts of the fly fishing equipment
  • Properly assemble the fly fishing equipment
  • Demonstrate the primary casts used in fly fishing (forward, back, false, roll, side, S)
  • Discuss the casts and their proper usage

Fly tying workshop: $169

  • Fly tying kit and tools are included with the workshop fee.
  • Basic proficiency in using fly tying tools
  • Basic fly tying techniques
  • Application of techniques by tying several different fly patterns
  • Knowledge of how the flies should be used

 

Academic Credit Course

This course focuses on fly tying, casting, and fishing techniques. Equipment provided. Students are responsible for transportation to off-campus locations. E-mail Dr. Poff for details.

WKU Study Away Fly Fishing Montana (non-credit): July 16-21, 2012 Missoula, Montana

Come join us and experience fly fishing on world renowned waters containing 5 species of trout: rainbow, brown, cutthroat, cutbow, and brook.

Program cost [$1,899 or $2,199] includes: 3 or 4 days of fly fishing (float trips with one guide and 2 anglers/boat), terminal tackle (leader, tippet, flies), use of fly fishing equipment if needed (rod, reel, etc.), guide gratuity, group day-trip to Glacier National Park, 4 or 5 nights lodging, meals, and Missoula airport transportation.

Discounted fly fishing equipment packages will also be available for registered participants interested in purchasing some new fly fishing gear.

In short, the program will cover nearly everything, except your transportation to/from Missoula which is not included.
