- How can I check to see what requirements are still outstanding for financial aid?
- TopNet provides you with online access to your financial aid information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This convenient feature, accessible from the WKU web site, enables you to check your application status, loan and award amounts, student account charges, and outstanding requirements for financial aid. You will need to know your net ID Number. If you do not know your net ID number, you can access it at www.wku.edu/it/accounts/netid/lookup.php. Determine what requirements are outstanding before your financial aid application can be processed: 1. Click on Topnet in the Quick Links, located in upper right corner of the WKU website (www.wku.edu) 2. Enter your net ID password 3. Click on Continue login 4. Click on Financial Aid 5. Click on Eligibility 6. Select appropriate year 7. Click on Student Requirements Be sure to view the instructions for each outstanding requirement so that you submit complete and appropriate information. Submitting incomplete or inaccurate information will cause delays in processing your financial aid award.
- I recently tried to view my TopNet account. I wasn't able to see if I needed to change anything. I didn't know what my PIN was. Could you send me my PIN so I can view my account and notify you of any changes?
- Please read the instructions on TopNet concerning your PIN. Originally, you are able to access TopNet with the last four digits of your social security number, but then you set your own personal PIN. The instructions are on TopNet. We do not have access to this information. For problems, contact the Help Desk at (270) 745-7000.
- You are requesting copies of tax returns and W-2's. Why?
- Federal regulations require colleges to check the accuracy of the information submitted on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This process is referred to as Verification. The Verification process must be completed before financial aid can be awarded.
- What is verification?
- Verification is the process of checking the information reported on your FAFSA for accuracy. If your application is selected, SFA is required to collect certain financial documents (e.g., federal tax forms) from you and your parents or spouse, if applicable. Information from these documents is then compared to your FAFSA information and changes are made when required. Financial aid applicants are selected for verification by the federal processor. SFA may also select applicants for verification to correct any potential conflicts in information. Verification forms are available from SFA or you may download them from the red navigational strip at the top of this page.
- Can you give me some Important Tips for completing the verification process?
- 1. Complete the requested Verification Worksheet in full: Do not leave blanks (enter 0 or NA). Be sure all required signatures have been provided. 2. Submit the entire federal tax return. Include all schedules and forms used to complete the return including but not limited to: Schedule A - Itemized Deductions, Schedule C (EZ) – Business Income, Schedule E – Supplemental Income/Loss, Schedule EIC – Earned Income Credit, Form 8863 – Education Credit, Form 8812 – Additional Child Tax Credit, etc. 3. Be sure the federal tax return is signed. We cannot accept e-file authorizations. We cannot accept tax preparer information unless it is signed by the individual tax preparer. 4. Be sure to submit all W-2’s included on Line 7 (Wages, salaries, tips, etc.) of the federal tax return. 5. Be sure to submit all 1099’s included on the tax return to include but not limited to: 1099-R – Distributions from Pensions/Annuities/IRA’s, 1099-INT – Interest Income, 1099-G – Unemployment Compensation, etc. 6. If you have a Partnership or S-Corp reported on Schedule E of the federal tax return you must also provide: Schedule(s) K-1 and either Form 1065 - U.S. Return of Partnership Income or Form 1120S - U.S. Income Tax Return for an S Corporation.
