Independent Learning
Financial Aid Agreement
Independent learning courses may be covered by financial aid if the student has met basic eligibility requirements. These include being enrolled in good standing in a degree seeking program; being enrolled at least half-time; having a current FAFSA on file, and having completed requests for any/all additional requirements (tax information, probation counseling, etc.). The student must also comply with the first two stipulations listed below:
- Students must have an equal or great number of regular or web based courses, which include Independent Learning web courses (section 970), to the number of paper (section 900), email (section 975) or CD (sections 980 & 985) Independent Learning courses they wish to take.
- Students must complete an online Independent Learning Agreement with the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
In addition,
- Students who complete an Independent Learning Agreement must complete the independent learning course(s) within the semester for which financial aid is awarded. Students cannot take a full year to complete independent learning courses if they are receiving financial aid for those courses. Students who sign an I/L agreement and fail to complete their independent learning courses within the semester may be on financial aid probation the following semester/term.
- Since the charges for Independent Learning course(s) are completely separate from regular university course charges, they are not considered in a determination of full-time hours for fee assessment purposes. I/L courses do count for financial aid hours.
- Students who are enrolled in 12 hours of regular university courses or 12 hours of regular and Independent Learning courses will be awarded the maximum in financial aid.
- Students may change I/L courses as long as the number of I/L courses remain equal to or greater than their regular courses. However, the student must contact our office and will be required to submit a new I/L Financial Aid Agreement for the course change.
- Students who drop I/L courses after the 100% drop/add date may be subject to reduction of financial aid, reduced tuition refund and may be on probation for the next semester/term.
- Students whose financial aid has processed and they have received a residual refund must pay for their I/L course at the time they enroll.
- Students who need I/L course to keep their total financial aid hours at a certain level (half-time or full-time), must submit an I/L Agreement.
