IEEE Southeast Conference 2005

SoutheastCon is the annual IEEE Region 3 Conference; it provides an opportunity for professionals, faculty and students from the areas of computer science and computer and electrical engineering to get together and share the latest ideas and developments through technical sessions, tutorials, and exhibits.  It comprises the southeastern United States, including the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, areas of Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and the country of Jamaica.

Hardware Competition

In this year’s competition, two teams will compete with one another on a 4’x 8’ plywood playing surface, in an effort to successfully collect five metallic balls randomly located on the opponent’s side of the playing field.  Each team’s robot must begin in a 6”x 6” square located on their side and will have five minutes to collect the balls and return to their original starting position.  Points will be awarded for each ball correctly retrieved and for returning to the correct spot in the allotted time.  Teams will be penalized for picking up opponent’s balls or failing to return to the starting position.  Three rounds will be played, and a team’s final score will be the total points from these three rounds.
