2008 Kentucky Bluegrass
Robotics Championship
Sponsored by
Western Kentucky University
Department of EngineeringKickoff Meeting: December 12/15, 2008
Competition Day: February 23, 2008
WKU's Engineering Department conducts an annual Bluegrass Robot Championship program to increase awareness of engineering and the sciences for middle school students. The competition has two components: a High School event and a middle school event. Students in both events design and build a robot to compete in sports-like event. The Bluegrass Robotic Championship is open to any students in the state of Kentucky or Tennessee.
The Bluegrass Robot Championship is sponsored by the Department of Engineering at Western Kentucky University. This is a FREE competition which provides students an excellent opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to a realistic and exciting team project. Funding for these events is provided annually by WKU Engineering and by a WKU Provost's Academic Excellence Initiatives award. Funding in the past by the NASA/Kentucky Space Grant Consortium has also been used to purchase competition materials.
Kickoff for the 2008 competition was December 12 and 15 at the WKU Engineering and Biological Sciences building. At kickoff, teams were provided with the rules of the competition and teams have been loaned LEGO Mindstorm kits to construct a robot. (All kits have been loaned out.)
A help session will be held on Monday, February 4 from 4:00 until 6:00 in the Engineering Building. Please attend if you have a specific need, or if you want to hear what other people are asking about.
The competition will be held on February 23, 2008 at 9:00 am in the WKU Engineering and Biological Sciences building.
If you have not participated in this competition in the past, we assist new teams, including providing a participant and team mentor workshop led by WKU faculty and staff.
All questions concerning these rules during the design and construction phase should be submitted via email to kevin.schmaltz@wku.edu
