Federal TRIO Programs in the United
States were created as part of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Under the initial leadership of Dr. Faye Robinson, WKU received its first TRIO grant when Student Support Services was funded in 1980. Later Educational Talent Search (1981), TRIO Training Programs
(1982 -2007), Upward Bound (1983) and Veterans Upward Bound (1992) were funded at Western. Funding for our sixth TRIO program was secured in 2002 when WKU was awarded a grant to establish the Educational Opportunity Centers program. All programs are housed in Jones-Jaggers Hall and are supervised by the Director of Educational Enhancement Programs who reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs/Enrollment Management within the Office of the Provost & Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Western Kentucky University is an Institutional Member of the Council For Opportunity In Education (COE). Student Disability Services
The goal of the Office
for Student Disability Services is to ensure that all students
with disabilities are provided access to all facets of the
Western Kentucky University experience; to facilitate and
coordinate support services and programs that enable students
with disabilities to maximize their educational potential; and
to increase awareness among all members of the University so
that students with disabilities are able to achieve academic
success based on their abilities, not their disabilities.
