For Students

Dual Credit student

A student wishing to take courses through the Dual Credit Program must be either a junior or senior in high school. Some courses (ENGL 100, MATH 116 for example) taken through the program have specific requirements that must be met prior to being registered. A high school principal or counselor must recommend students for participation in the Dual Credit Program based on the students’ potential for academic success in college level courses.

The registration process begins at the high school. At the beginning of each semester in which a student wishes to take dual credit courses, an application will need to be completed. This application can be obtained from a guidance counselor at the high school who will provide students with school specific application information and deadlines. It is important to note that students’ applications and fees must be submitted to the Dual Credit Program’s office by September 1 (Fall semester) or February 1 (Spring semester). Please note that students are not to mail their applications to WKU’s Admissions Office.

Students will receive a bill from WKU for their dual credit course(s). Payment for dual credit courses must be remitted to WKU’s Billings Office by October 1 for the Fall semester or March 1 for the Spring semester. If payment for the course is not received by these dates, the student will be dropped from the course for college credit. Enrollment in the course for high school credit will not be affected. If dropped for non-payment, a student can be re-registered to the course up until December 1 for the Fall semester and May 1 for the Spring semester provided that payment in full for the course is sent to WKU’s Dual Credit Program plus a $20 late fee. If a student wishes to drop a dual credit course, it is their responsibility to notify Dewayne Neeley at 270-745-2386 or dual.credit@wku.edu no later than October 1 for the Fall semester or March 1 for the Spring semester.
