A Brief History

The Division of Extended Learning and Outreach (DELO) was officially formed on July 1, 2003 when the Board of Regents approved its creation.

Dr. Barbara Burch, WKU Provost (1998-2010), was instrumental in DELO's formation. She envisioned a well-developed and expansive outreach program that would take advantage of the talents and interests of faculty and other WKU resources and match those with the needs of constituents locally, nationally, and internationally.

Under founding Dean, Dr. Donald Swoboda, DELO experienced significant growth in programs and staffing. Dr. Swoboda stated that DELO's success is a direct result of strong partnerships, hard-working and dedicated staff, and a bold vision.

Dr. Beth Laves was named Associate Vice President for Extended Learning and Outreach following Dr. Swoboda's retirement in October, 2010. Dr. Laves seeks to continue expanding DELO's outreach efforts in order to meet WKU's goals of extending its reach beyond the Bowling Green campus.
